Notes on Classes

There's a certain comfort in seeing people fight with real weapons, even if that weapon is being lunged at you. At least you can see it. You know what it is, you know what it will do, and you have a chance to parry or dodge. There's also a certain comfort in knowing you can bar your doors and windows. After all, people who steal stuff can't simply walk through doors, teleport through walls, or travel back in time to when you forgot to lock the door when you went out a week ago for one or two (or five) tankards of ale. Good thing those nice (and more importantly, discreet) clerics had a good supply of those weird, red pistacchios for curing STDs!

But spellcasters . . . they just aren't natural! They should be rounded up and beheaded! Or maybe held in awe for their mystical powers! Maybe left alone out of caution? Maybe closely watched out of suspicion! Or maybe it depends on who you talk to. And you never really know who you're talking to, do you?

Spellcasters guard their identities dearly. The parties with whom they travel will usually know and accept who and what they are, but casting a spell in a general population or among strangers is asking for a beheading. And you'd rather not lose your head. You've grown very attached to it.

If a spellcaster must cast a spell, s/he will obfuscate it in some way. For instance, red pistacchios do not really cure STDs. They were simply red herrings. Not to say that they were really herrings instead of pistacchios, but . . .

Ahem, moving on . . .

The remainder of this section offers some special notes on how various classes can interact with general society with little or not risk. The suggestions offered are only suggestions. Your character is your own, and your options are open. With the skill points you're given and the variety of skills that are offered, you can create any of a number of alter egos for your spell casting character.
