The following are the main characteristics of the twelve. They are not one dimensional characters who are strictly defined by two or three characteristics, but are dynamic, as any beings are. The descriptions below are only meant to give the reader a general feel of the more prominent aspects of their being.
The full extent of their power is not known. They are not limited by class or level. None of the twelve are said to have ever been harmed by any mortal. What is said is that each one of the twelve can cast any spell at a whim as many times as s/he wishes and, if they so choose, with more potency.
Despite their powers and abilities, their direct involvement with mortals, with the exception of granting spells to their respective and prayerful clerics and druids, is discrete, subtle, and rare. Some say this is due to their being kept in check by each other. Others say this is due to their having other affairs to which they must attend.
There are ancient stories, however, that it was the direct involvement of one or more of the twelve that ended the devastating wars between the wizards and the priests.
